Capital Springs State Park and Recreation Area

This is nice and close and my favorite place to rollerblade! In this park, there is a paved path that goes three different directions. One direction heads into Madison and merges with the Capital City Trail (also paved) which will take you straight downtown Madison. Another direction, my favorite, takes you on the Yahara River Trail, which includes a long boardwalk across and along Lake Waubesa. If you take the other direction of the Capital City Trail, you head towards hwy 14 and go into Fitchburg. All these directions are very fun and nicely paved which is great for not only rollerblading, but also long boarding, biking, running or walking. This park also has a great dog park just down the road that my dogs love! Dogs are also allowed on both the Capital City Trail and the Yahara River Trail. There are definitely places to set up a hammock throughout the park and along the Yahara River Trail, but I didn't see any along the Capital City Trail. Beware! The Capital City Trail does go by the sewage treatment plant which was not a pleasant surprise. Very smelly! These trails are all out and back, so you really can go as far as you want.

Rating: 10/10

The trails are smooth and very well mapped out! Overall a great area!

To the right: A picture of just the beginning of the boardwalk on the Yahara River Trail.
