Governor Dodge State Park-Dodgeville

Now that the state parks are reopened, I thought I should share with you guys my absolute favorite state park! Its right outside of Dodgeville, so about a 50 minute drive from Madison, and it is great for hiking, paddle boarding, ham mocking, mountain biking, canoeing, etc. After my parents were married, my mom was just out of college and my dad was just finishing up his senior year. Needless to say, they were BROKE. Living in Dodgeville in a one-bedroom apartment, weekends were very boring until they found this park. Every weekend they would go hiking, swimming, biking, etc. here. Ever since then, it has been a very important place in our family that we keep going back to again and again. There are two lakes here, but our favorite is Cox Hollow Lake. I love camping here too, the sites are very nice and there's so much to do at the park. I have two favorite trails here, Pinecliff Trail and Stephans Falls Trail. Pinecliff trail is a 4.5 mile loop that takes you up to a great overlook of Cox Hollow Lake. A good portion of the trail is right along the lake, with multiple access points for you or your dog. Stephans Falls trail is only 0.5 mile out and back, and it takes you to one of the most breathe-taking waterfalls. You can go under the waterfall and explore around it. There is also an old milk cellar which you can go in and on top of. If you want a longer hike, you can take Lost Canyon Trail, which is a 3 mile loop and passes by Stephan's Falls. All the trails are very well marked, and they are all so beautiful. There are also boat, kayak and paddle board rentals along with a great beach. AND a dog beach that we love to take our pups too! Dogs are also allowed on the trail which makes it even better :)

Rating: 10/10

It is really beautiful anytime of the year, especially in the fall. If you are looking for a good time to see the waterfall, I would recommend spring because that is when there is the most water flow.

Pictures out on the water :)

The pictures above are from the Pinecliff Trail.
