Donald County Park

This is seriously my favorite park right now! Its like a mini Devils Lake! It's located in Mt. Vernon, a little town about 25 minutes from Madison. This park has literally everything for everyone! There are so many different trails to try, and all of them are easily accessible. My favorite trail is the Springs Trail, which follows Mt. Vernon Creek for some very pretty views of some springs. I could not get over how clear the water was at these springs and even in the river-it seriously looked like we were in Canada at Lake Louise! There is also a lot of history information of sign throughout the park, with pictures and information about the park and the people who founded it. Majority of the trails follow along the creek, which is fun for me and my pups! The park does require dogs to be leashed and there are usually 6 or 7 cars in the parking lot, but the park is so big its hard to run into people. It is also a great park for birding and fishing. There are also multiple equestrian trails for horseback riders. Another one of my favorite trails here is Mt Vernon Overlook Trail. Its only about 0.3 miles, but it has the best view! Its a steep climb, but at the top you are able to look over the town of Mt. Vernon. It is very easy to make any of these trails out and backs, but there are also many loops as well. There is also a very nice new shelter for picnics and campfires.

Rating: 11/10!

Honestly I love this place. Super friendly and all the trails are well marked. There are so many different landscapes, from creeks to spring pools to prairies to cliff overlooks. There are places to set up a hammock, but you'll have to hike in a little bit. Definitely could set up a hammock at the Mt. Vernon overlook.

Here is a link to their website with a map!
