Wyalusing State Park

One of the first hikes I did during quarantine was at Wyalusing State Park in Bagely, WI... close to Prairie du Chien. It is about a two hour drive from Madison, but it is SO worth it! The park has a BEAUTIFUL view overlooking where the Wisconsin River meets the Mississippi River where there are picnic benches to sit and enjoy. There are different level hikes, making it accessible to almost anyone. We did the bluff trail, the old wagon trail, and the Mississippi Ridge Trail. We started at the top of the bluff and hiked down until we reached the banks of the river, where we then followed the river back to the trail head. The bluff trail was definitely more difficult than others, but once on the Mississippi Ridge Trail, there is barely any elevation until you have to get back to the trail head, which is mostly easy switchbacks. The park was not very crowded, and we only saw a few other groups on the trails. The park is very dog friendly, and we were able to walk our dogs on leashes. Unfortunately, we were not able to visit the prairie trails or the campgrounds, but during the drive through the park it seemed just as beautiful as the bluff. In total we spent about 2-2 1/2 hours hiking, but you definitely want to dedicate your day to this park. I did not bring my hammock here, but there were so many great places to hang one up, on the trail and around the park. I would go back in a heart beat and totally recommend it to anyone!

Trails were well marked and over all just an amazing park! The drive was long, but there were so many pretty rolling hills and cute little towns on the way. It wasn't busy when I was there, which was pretty early in the season, but I heard it gets busier during the summer.

To the left: My doggo, Charlie, enjoy a little swim break in the river :)

On the left: Trail along the Wisconsin River. Some parts were flooded, but there were already trails made by other hikers around the water.

On the right: descending down towards the river on the Bluff Trail. Narrow path but beginning has steps and railings as pictured.
